July 22nd, 2023

Our Executive Director was recently interviewed by KRQE and appeared in an article by the Santa Fe New Mexican.
He talks about some of the filming that took place in the Oppenheimer House, and shows some of the furniture donated by Universal Studios.

We are proud to announce that the Oppenheimer House was used in the newly released movie Oppenheimer!
Filming took place in March of 2022. The house was being prepared for about 2 weeks before shooting. Furniture and decorations were brought in, rearranged several times, and set up in preparation for its day on camera.
Gadget Films filmed in several other locations around town including Fuller Lodge, the World War II Women's Dorm, Graves Hall in United Church, in some of the nearby wilderness, and relying on nearby businesses for aid and temporary storage.
After filming was completed, the crew packed up everything they had brought in (except the custom curtains) and left.
Recently, Universal Studios donated a majority of the furniture that was used in the Oppenheimer House for the movie! We have recreated the layout and you are free to come by and look through the windows to see!

"I was thinking that it even applied to the extras. We were in the real Los Alamos and we had a lot of real scientists as extras. We needed the crowd of extras to give reactions, and improvise, and we were getting sort of impromptu, very educated speeches. It was really fun to listen to. You've been on sets where you've got a lot of extras around and they're more or less thinking about lunch. These guys were thinking about the geopolitical implications of nuclear arms and knew a lot about it. It actually was a great reminder every day of: We have to be really on our game, we have to be faithful to the history here, and really know what we're up to."

Oppenheimer Merchandise and Books

109 East Palace

$20.00
By: Jennet Conant

In 1943, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant, charismatic head of the Manhattan Project, recruited scientists to live as virtual prisoners of the U.S. government at Los Alamos, a barren mesa thirty-five miles outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. Thousands of men, women, and children spent the war years sequestered in this top-secret military facility. They lied to friends and family about where they were going and what they were doing, and then disappeared into the desert. Through the eyes of a young Santa Fe widow who was one of Oppenheimer's first recruits, we see how, for all his flaws, he developed into an inspiring leader and motivated all those involved in the Los Alamos project to make a supreme effort and achieve the unthinkable.
