Let the National Park Service Know What You Think

If you couldn't make the meetings with the National Park Service (NPS) on Feb. 2, you still have time to get your comments in on the Manhattan Project National Historical Park. The NPS draft report contains five recommendations, from doing nothing to a full-blown national park based in Los Alamos. Click here to access the draft study or to make comments.

The Atomic Heritage Foundation has been instrumental in the proposal for planning a park. Read more about it on the organization's website.

New Oppenheimer sculpture in Fuller Lodge

Oppenheimer is in the Building

A new sculpture of J. Robert Oppenheimer will greet visitors to Fuller Lodge for the next several months. The sculpture, commissioned by Los Alamos County through the Los Alamos Art in Public Places Board in conjunction with the Fuller Lodge/Historic Districts Advisory Board, is the first of a series of historic sculptures planned for the community. A sculpture of Gen. Leslie Groves is in the works. Oppenheimer and Groves will be placed side by side in the Los Alamos Historic District. The Los Alamos County Council is expected to make a decision on the placement of the sculptures in February.

Restored Romero Cabin

The Romero Cabin Restored

We are pleased to announce that the Romero Cabin, one of the two remaining homestead cabins on the Pajarito Plateau, has undergone a major restoration. Crews dismantled the logs down to the foundation. New logs were installed in the back and west walls, and the cabin received a new floor and a new roof, as well. The chinking has now been completed. We have recently applied for aa grant for furnishing and interpreting the cabin.
